Social Work

Coming to terms with serious illness can be difficult and distressing. When someone is seriously ill everyone around them is affected. Strong and sometimes unfamiliar emotions are common: you may feel depressed, helpless, frightened or angry. You may be worried about your children and other family members and may be unsure as to how to talk together about what is happening and how to support each other.

How we can help you and your family.

Although each individual’s journey is different, the opportunity for you to talk with a professional can help. We can help you, your family and friends talk through feelings about illness, loss and bereavement and can offer support with emotional and practical issues.

The services we offer:

  • Information, advice and support to those living with illness
  • Dealing with loss and coping with grief
  • Support and advise parents in recognising the specific needs of children
  • Support and help children to come to terms with serious illness of a parent, family member or a friend.
  • Guide and assist individuals, families and friends in communication during severe emotional distress
  • Information and advice about practical issues such as welfare benefits, community resources and support available to you
  • We also provide a Bereavement Support service.
