Nursing Team

Led by the Director of Nursing, we are a team of clinical nurse managers, clinical nurse specialists, staff nurses and healthcare assistants.

Our Role

As a team of nurses caring for you and your family we have many different roles and responsibilities.

To care for you we will:

  • Ensure your comfort and well-being
  • Ensure you have enough food and drink, rest and sleep
  • Help you wash and dress
  • Keep you as mobile as possible
  • Work with the multi-disciplinary team to fully assess your needs to plan and provide your care
  • Co-ordinate your care, ensuring hospital appointments are kept and all treatments are given

To protect you we will ensure your environment is safe, and take all precautions to prevent the spread of infection.

To care for your family we will ensure they also have our comfort and our support, and any information they need.  They are also part of our team.

Practice Development/Clinical Placements

As a modern, forward-thinking department we believe in the development of our nursing staff into world-class practitioners, providing training, leadership, innovation and change.

Through practice development initiatives we are constantly striving to improve the quality of our care to you.

As educators we facilitate clinical placements for both under-graduate and post-graduate nursing students.

Infection Control

Milford Care Centre operates an active Infection Prevention and Control Programme managed by the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Infection Prevention and Control.

Continuous audit and surveillance are an important part of this programme.  Policies and procedures relating to infection prevention and control are in place in line with evidence based practice and national and international guidelines.

Hand hygiene is recognised as the single most important factor in preventing the spread of infection and plays a major role in delivering safe patient care for all patients in Milford Care Centre.  All patients, visitors, volunteers and staff are trained, encouraged and supported to carry out effective hand hygiene.

Visitors are requested not to visit if they have suffered from diarrhoea and/or vomiting in the previous 48 hours or flu-like symptoms in the previous 72 hours.

Adherence to the Health and Quality Authority National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections (2009) ensures compliance in the prevention and control of infection throughout Milford Care Centre.
